I didn’t use the Instant Pot glass lid, one of the glass lids of my cooking pan fit well on the Instant pot hence I used that. Make sure to use a lid that fits well.
Popcorn is made in the Saute mode in more temperature setting, moisture will build up under the glass lid and there will be slight dripping through the lid, just wipe it off using a kitchen towel and be careful while opening the lid- wear an oven mitt.
I used organic refined coconut oil that can be used for medium high heat.
Since, the temperature is kept at more or high, you have to use an oil with high smoke point (Smoke point refers to the temperature at which an oil starts to burn and smoke).
Avoid using extra virgin coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil- these have low smoke points.
Pop 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of corn kernels at a time. Do not use more that this as there will be a lot of unpopped kernels left in the pot.

It tastes good
Only pops half the kernels. I used 2 T. Coconut oul and 1T. Butter abd 1/4 cup popcorn kernels. Every time this happens. But when i use 2 T. Canola oil, most all kernels pop.
Only half the kernels popped. Don’t think I’ll used it for popcorn
Very happy with results. Followed instructions closely, used 3 tbsp coconut oil, 2 tbsp butter, 1/2 cup popping corn in 6 qt IP. Made sure pot was “hot” before adding oils.
I had the same problem. Poped half the kernels then stopped. But it does taste good. Love how its kinda crispy. I’ll have to try it again and see if I can figure out what happened.
Better than movie popcorn! I cannot believe how well this worked! 2 tbs coconut oil, 2 tbs butter, kernels and salt. Husband loved it too! Great addition to our movie night!
I also dont have the instant pot glass lid so I just user a glass lid from the biggest stock pot I had. Worked like a charm!
I had the same issue as others – it didnt pop over half the kernels.
I didn’t get good popping results. Wonder if I need that glass lid for it instead of using something else.
Disappointing results. Fully half of the kernels didn’t pop, and the butter browned, making the popped kernels look dirty. The final product was very greasy as well. Not light and fluffy like I’d hoped.
Two thumbs down.
Followed instructions to a tee – only cook half the kernels, started to burn.
Worst part – used the last of the butter so couldn’t go back to the tried ‘n’ true stovetop. ☹
Worked well. Today it popped most of the kernels. Have to make sure the pot is HOT before adding the oil and butter and then the corn and stir. Worked very well.
1st time making popcorn and worked fantastic for us. My 4yr old is delighted. We use the ip duo 6 liters
This worked perfectly. It was so good, light and fluffy!
It is healthier than microwaveable popcorn.
It will be a regular make for our family!
Didn’t work for me. I ended up using the pan since I was craving it so bad. Dissapointed!!
Having bad results..? We have the mini instant pot…how do we get the right temp with no “more” setting
Best popcorn ever!!
Only popped half of the kernels and is much slower than on the stovetop. If you dont shake or twist the inner pot, it will burn. But, it does taste good!
I attempted this but in my IP duo. Halfed ingredients. Got burn notice right away, which turn off the pot. Made stove top popcorn
Tried this about 6X and it’s always been a huge fail. Only 1/2 the kernels pop. Not worth it to me.
Yes. I followed recipe to the letter.
Hi Donna,
Cooking popcorn in the Instant Pot is difficult and hit or miss.
Perfect everytime!
Did anyone use a different lid other than the IP glass one ?
The recipe worked great for me. I had to use a plate for a lid but it tasted wonderful. Popped all the kernels.
This worked great. Popped two bowls in a row to make enough for my popcorn loving family. We use popcorn oil so used that and butter. After choosing the kernels, i made sure they were not lined together around the outside of the pan and spread evenly across the whole bottom. This might make a difference as it was a tip i had seen on another recipe.
I had to saute longer than 5 minutes. Ended up almost 10 minutes.
This is not dairy free!
Worked wonderfully today! I fid use bacon grease instead of coconut oil as that is always on hand here and also has a high smoke point
DID NOT EVEN WORK! ENDED UP WITH BURNT BUTTER AND NOT POPCORN! Do not even try this at home!
First time made it great. Used olive oil as our coconut oil is unrefined. Didnt have a glass lid so I just used my sealing lid sitting gingerly on top so there was a small crack in the side of lid. Worked a charm and for me it’s more flavorful and fluffy then stovetop popcorn. This is my new go to
Didnt work at all but I am at high altitude and the oil needs to get hotter than what the instapot is capable of I think.
We are sorry to hear it didnt turn out for you. It is important to follow the exact instructions.
You have to use an oil with a high smoke point; only using butter will not work.
I used only butter in a mini instant pot and it worked great! Crispy and delicious.
I only used 1tbsp of coconut oil, no butter and a little salt. Popped great and including every kernel.
Worked out perfectly! Followed the recipe in detail and only few kernels left unpopped.
Made tonight in my 3 qt using app 1/3 C corn kernels and butter/peanut oil. I thought it turned out great. Only few unpopped kernels. Would make it again.
My son loved it and was good cooking experience for him
Everything popped just fine and tasted good. Much healthier alternative than a microwave. However, compared to just spending a few minutes with an air popper I think I’ll stick with that. Very little cleanup with the air popper since it uses no oil. My lid for the instant pot was a dripping mess.
The saute feature on my pot will not go to high. Did on medium but took longer.
Recipe worked perfectly! Used white corn instead of yellow. Enjoy a big bowl of popcorn with a movie.
I can’t believe how well this worked. We’ve used a stir crazy popcorn maker for years and its never been consistent. I was hugely skeptical of this but gave it a shot. Even brought my IP on my camping trip. Now we enjoy popcorn by the fire. Yummy.
If I could get negative reviews I would it did not work for me at all 15 minutes later two kernels popped. Followed the recipe all except for adding butter. I was left with burnt popcorn kernels and a dirty Insta pot and nothing to show for it . You shouldn’t post recipes that are hit or miss
I think I’m going to try to make this, but I don’t know what to do about temp. I don’t have a ‘more’ on my pot, only low, medium, high, and custom. Should I just put it on custom? Not sure what the temp should be.
