There are two recipes to cook rice. One requires soaking for 15 minutes and another one doesn’t. Neither one uses the rice button that’s right there.
I feel there needs to be some olive oil in it- i usually bake my rice(and usually takes 30mins to make) and its moist. This is a little dry. Its not bad
Just as I suspected. Far too much water to rice ratio. Not sure if it should be cooked longer or use less water as I am not experienced enough using an Instant Pot but my experience using a steamer method was enough to know. This recipe gets a fail from me.
Had to halve the recipe. Made it on two occasions so far with 1 cup rice and 1.25 cups water. Turned out perfect both times.
I got a burn message
The 1 cup rice 1.25 suggestion came out perfect! Thank you!
Gotta add 2tsp oil or butter & 1tsp salt to make it perfect.
You need to put less water. 1:1 ratio works well. 1:1.25 is too soggy. Also, season the rice a bit for flavor. Otherwise it comes out bland.
It makes the perfect rice!
I used 1 cup broth from a pot roast and 1 cup water added to 2 cups rice. Followed the directions exactly as far as cooking. It was perfect!
Tried this recipe and the rice was still crunchy. None of the “manual” setting recipes work on my instant pot. I have the lux version. For basmati I need to cook it for at least 30 minutes either on the rice or the manual setting. I want to use my instant pot more but it makes me sad.
Hi Ribulah,
The rice button is only for white or parboiled rice. If the rice was still crunchy it is usually due to not enough water. Always ensure to cook more than one cup of rice.
A cooking time of 30 minutes not including preheating is long. Please ensure that the steam release is turned to sealing and that there is no steam escaping. If you continue to have trouble with your Instant Pot, join our community.

This recipe was so easy to make. It was so good made it twice in one week. Made it with both skinless boneless thighs and skinless breast both were great.
I have an instant pot that says ruce and it defaults to 12 minutes am i doing something wrong?
Hi rinah.jhajj,
The rice button is automatic and cooks ONLY white or parboiled rice. For any other type of grain use multigrain, or manual/pressure cook program.
I have the rice setting. I follow the recipe for ingredients and the rice is perfect! For a change I use chicken broth and add chopped cilantro to rice when ready to serve.
Perfect!
Did only one cup of rinsed rice with one cup of water in my 3 quart ultra. 3 minutes on high 10-minute natural release and rice was perfect.
Perfect rice every time!
I want to cook 4 cups basmati rice in insta spot … not sure how long do I need to keep pressure cook mode, for one or two cups I used to keep for 8 to 10 mins , is it the same time do I need to use ?
Ive made this using the 2:2 ratio always turns out perfect on high pressure for 4 mins with keep warm on and 10 min natural release.
I did exactly this at noon and it has been horrible
2 cups of premium basmati rice and 2,5 cups of water
4 min high pressure
Zen i have switched to keep warm without doing anything else
After 10 min i put on “venting”
At the opening, rice was totally overcooked
What am i doing wrong?
