*Tip: To bring the cream cheese to room temperature (softened) quickly, place both unwrapped packages on a plate and microwave it on HIGH (1100 watts) for 40 seconds.
*Tip: To bring eggs to room temperature, place eggs in a small bowl of very warm (not hot) water for 10 minutes.
Hi! I’m Kathleen Royal Phillips. I’m a food stylist, cookbook author, mom and maker of shortcut recipes loving life in a charming town called Gardendale, Alabama with my husband and two teenage children. I love to cook and laugh…not necessarily in that order.
Why Grits and Gouda? I’m Southern with a pinch of gourmet and a dash of healthy and frugal…and so are my recipes. Most of my recipes on the have shortcuts in them but I also love to bake from scratch and make jams and pickles, but I also have a busy schedule-don’t we all!

How many chocolate chips and what kind? Semi sweet, milk, dark?
Don’t you have to add water to the pot before putting the cake pan on the trivet? If so, how much? I’m guessing at least 1 cup.
For baking the crust 8 minutes you still need the oven?
Jlarrusa@gmail.com It looks like the semi sweet chocolate chips have been omitted. My recipe on my blog calls for 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Johnella Yes, you are correct! I added 1 cup of water and placed the trivet in the bottom of the pot. Thank you for catching that. I made the change on my recipe.
Josen Yes, for a crisp crust, I prebake the crust in the oven. I tried it without baking it and it was slightly soggy.
Well thr description and directions are a bit deceptive! It states that cooking time is 15 minutes but in the instructions it sais to pressure cook for 50 min. Kinda had me confused for a minute there.
Thank you Uglyducklying!
I have updated the time.
Yes it is 50 minutes. One person said they like the texture best at 55 minutes. They thought 50 was just a bit soft for them.
The best. Also check out http://www.google.com
